Local Attractions

After a relaxed breakfast it is decision time for the day ahead. If you want a break from the car there are plenty of walks in the area. The bustling town of Fowey is within easy reach, simply walk on to the Bodinnick Ferry for a short ride across the river. There are passenger ferries from the town to Mevagissey and Polruan. From Polruan the coastal path can be walked to the quaint village of Polperro discovering the peace and tranquility of the coves of Lantic, Lantivet and Lansallos on the way.

There is plenty of parking at Trehaida for boat owners. Boat lovers can launch their own boat locally at Penmarlem Quay, a few hundred yards away, for a standard fee, and cruise up and down the river or venture the open seas. Other activities are horse riding or golfing with boat and fishing trips from either Fowey, Mevagissey or nearby Looe with its sandy beach and Banjo Pier.

There are many attractions around the area which include the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and many National Trust properties such as Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Anthony, the historic stannery town of Lostwithiel with the ancient ruined castle of Restormel, and Bodmin with its ancient jail, steam railway and Camel Trail for keen cyclists.

Less than an hours drive away is the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets and popular shopping area. Plymouth is also a good shopping area and boasts the National Marine Aquarium. There is the Maritime Museum at Falmouth, the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount.

A fitting end to a very enjoyable day is a meal in one of the many local pubs or restaurants.
